What to have ready

Keep your latest electricity bill handy. It shows your sanctioned load, average monthly units, and DISCOM. Also note your roof area and whether it gets shade for part of the day. Installers will ask for these details.

National prices

A 2 kW on-grid residential system starts between ₹1,75,000 and ₹2,13,000 with installation. A 3 kW system starts between ₹2,15,000 and ₹2,47,000. These are starting ranges; your final quote depends on roof type, inverter choice, and local labour.

Subsidy and financing

Under PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, households can get a central financial assistance of 60% of system cost for 2 kW systems and 40% of additional system cost for systems between 2 to 3 kW capacity, capped at 3 kW. At current benchmark prices, that means ₹30,000 subsidy for a 1 kW system, ₹60,000 for 2 kW, and ₹78,000 for 3 kW or higher. Collateral-free loans are available from nationalized banks at a concessional interest rate of repo-rate plus 50 bps, i.e., 5.75% per annum for the present, with a tenure of 10 years. Households apply for subsidy through the National Portal and select a suitable vendor for installing rooftop solar.
